Recently my sister, the mother of an about-to-be thirteen year old daughter, asked me to join her and the other women of our family to create a "coming of age" ritual for her daughter. In this ritual, each of us will select a special bead and, from the selected beads, we'll make a necklace for Jill that will represent her big passage from childhood to adolescence. Since I'm a jewelry artist and everyone in my family is creative, this idea has struck a happy note with all of us.

It also strikes me that more families might want to do a ritual like this for their daughters. What a wonderful way to honor an important time in the life of a young girl by giving her the blessing of her mother, aunties, and cousins! As the elder woman in my family, I'm excited to paticipate. If my mother was still alive, I know she'd be thrilled.

So this brings me to offer a new service to other mothers and daughters on the edge of womanhood. I would love to help you create a piece of jewelry designed just for your daughter that would represent her favorite colors and be blessed, in some way, by the women of her tribe or clan.

If you're interested in planning such an event, I'd be happy to help or coach you as well as make the jewelry you would gift to your child.

Please contact me through my business email at meredithjordan@verizon.net or by phone at 207-283-0752.

warmly,
Meredith
